"The Frost" Zine

The Frost Zine is a collection of visual art and stories for the holiday season. The purpose of The Frost Zine is to raise funds for HOBA House and HOBA Farms, and publish artists and writers to the general public.
​
All submissions will collaborated into a small, paper back zine (or multiple zines dependent on the volume) and distributed throughout Louisville, as well as a digital version. Publishing and distribution will be handled by HOBA.

These are paid submissions. The submission fee is five dollars( $5.00). Payment of the submission fee secures submission into the zine( unless the submission does not follow the below listed guidelines.) Please read the guidelines carefully. Due to the volume of submissions, the submission fee is non refundable. Each artist can submit up to 2 pieces. There is no theme for this issue.

Writing Submissions
Must be between 100-10,000 words
Any genre is accepted
Trigger Warnings MUST be added to stories that contain triggering themes( ex. Excessive violence, ect)
Stories must be ready-to-publish AS IS. Any grammatical and spelling mistakes will be considered artistic choice and will not be edited out.
The submission fee guarantees admittance into the zine, but pieces may be omitted for not following along with HOBA’s mission of inclusivity and acceptance. Be aware that the zine is inclusive for POC, ethnic minorities, LGBTQA+, all genders and gender identities, lifestyle and religious choices, disabled persons, people of various ages, economic and class status and educational level. Varying opinions are welcome as long as they do not call for violence or harassment against another group or individual.

All styles of writing are allowed. Examples include: Letters, pamphlets, short fiction, biography, autobiography, poetry and manuals. Chapter books, novels, novellas, and epics are not accepted in full, but excerpts of these kinds of works are accepted as long as it meets the word count restriction. Immersive fiction or real historical documents ( birth and death certificates, marriage licenses, ect.) will be considered visual art. Please view the visual art guidelines below.
Submissions written in languages other than English are allowed. Keep in mind that we take no responsibility for editing the submission, and assume that the submissions grammar and spelling is intentional and AS IS. Please inform us of the language you will be using for your piece.
As of right now, submissions will be published READ ONLY. Unfortunately, we do not have a way to make this available in audio/ braille(yet!). We apologize for any inconvenience.

Art Submisions
Must be a visual art medium( photos of a performance art piece is fine)
Must be an original work (made by you. Collaborations are fine)
Advertisements and design( such as packaging, labels, ect) , propaganda posters, ect are fine as long as the person submitting the piece has the rights to said piece, and it was created by the submitter. Parodies and satire of design( such as using the golden arches) are also allowed.
Immersive fiction( like fictional legal documents, fake Twitter posts,ect) are allowed. Historical documents( birth and death certificates, marriage licenses, ect) are also allowed if they coincide with the overall theme. Please be considerate. We will assume you have the rights to use these documents for an immersive art / historical art experience. If we feel that this is being used to harm or harass someone, the submission will not be accepted.( this would include, for example, documents dead naming an individual, unless the individual is the artist in question.) Historical pieces that contain false information/conspiracy theories related to the pandemic are allowed, but MUST INCLUDE A CONTENT WARNING( ex. CW: Conspiracy theory propaganda)
Due to the current time ,we ask that submissions that encourage going against the CDC guidelines or the rules and regulations set in place by local, state, and federal leaders in regards to the pandemic not be submitted, and will not be included into the zine. An example would be encouraging everyone to participate in a dangerous activity to keep themselves safe.

All submissions will be emailed and submitted in PNG format.

As of right now, submissions will be published VIEW ONLY. Unfortunately, we do not have a way to make this available in audio/ touch(yet!). We apologize for any inconvenience.
